Every year, one-third of the world's food is wasted, while 10% of the population suffers from hunger
This includes food loss generated throughout the supply chain, as well as food waste at the consumption end (e.g., households, restaurants, retail outlets). According to statistics from the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) of the Executive Yuan, Taiwan's food waste recycling volume exceeded 520,000 metric tons in 2020. Converted into kitchen waste bins, this amount could stack up to 12,000 Taipei 101 towers in height. Moreover, this data does not include kitchen waste mistakenly disposed of as general garbage.
Despite the significant amount of food wasted globally each year, approximately one-tenth of the world's population still suffers from hunger. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) further points out that food waste, along with poverty, conflict, and economic crises, ranks among the leading causes of hunger.
Inspired by the European app “Too Good To Go,” which sells surplus food
While studying in France, the designer was inspired by the surplus food app “Too Good To Go” (hereafter referred to as TGTG) developed in Denmark. Consumers can use the platform to search for restaurants, supermarkets, or grocery stores in European regions collaborating with TGTG. They can then reserve and purchase a certain quantity of surplus food bags for the current or next day through the platform. The price of these bags is one-third of the food's value, allowing consumers to save money while reducing surplus food for the store on the one hand and creating profit for the store on the other. Acting as a bridge between consumers and stores, the platform also profits from the process, achieving a win-win-win situation.
There is currently no such website available in Taiwan
Taiwan has food banks and Facebook groups where leftover food is shared for free. However, the quality of food in food banks cannot always be guaranteed, as there may be food left in refrigerators for days without being picked up, leading to issues of prolonged storage.
Most of the sharing on Facebook groups involves individuals rather than businesses. However, businesses find it challenging to post daily and wait for people to come and collect the leftover food.

Adding a backend interface for businesses
This is a platform catering to both restaurants and consumers. Currently, we have only developed features and interfaces for consumers. To make this product operational in the real world, we need to add a backend management interface for businesses, enhancing the completeness of the product as a bridge between both parties.
Seek user testing and iteration
Due to time constraints, this project focused primarily on the output of the interface and frontend development, without undergoing user testing and iteration. In the future, if there's an opportunity to further optimize this product, we'll gather insights from real potential users and their feedback to make the product more refined.
